The sales of new cars in Morocco have been established at 83,831 units in the first six months of this year, down 10.84% compared to the same period in 2021, it emerges from the monthly statistics of the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM).
By segment, the number of new registrations of passenger cars (PC) amounted to 75,179 units, down 9.58%, while that of light commercial vehicles (LCV) decreased by 20.48% to 8,652 cars, says AIVAM.
The brand “Dacia” dominates the segment of VP, with a market share of 27.54%, or 20,703 units sold at the end of June 2022, followed by Renault which sold 10,833 units (market share of 14.41%) and Hyundai (7,535 units and 10.02% in market share)
In the LCV segment, Renault increased its sales by 54.73% to 2,160 units (24.97% market share), while DFSK sold 1,242 vehicles (14.36% market share) and Ford 1,075 units (12.42% market share).
In terms of sales of premium cars, Audi sold 2,148 units in the first half of this year, representing a market share of 2.86%, ahead of BMW (1,405 vehicles and 1.87% market share) and Mercedes (1,339 units with a market share of 1.78%).
In addition, AIVAM reports that Porsche sales were down 2.76% to 176 vehicles, and Jaguar sales were down 34.91% to 69 cars.
In June alone, sales of new cars in Morocco fell by 15.78%, following a drop in the number of passenger cars (-14.84% to 15,176 units) and light commercial vehicles (-23.61% to 1,647 vehicles).
