Comorian preacher arrested for trying to scam Rayan’s family

The elements of the Royal Gendarmerie Brigade of Chefchaouen have referred Wednesday before the prosecutor of the King at the Court of First Instance of Chefchaouen a Comorian national, aged forty years, for attempting to defraud the family of the child Rayan in douar Ighran in the same city. This Comorian, a preacher in an African country, came to Morocco on 12 February via a flight at the international airport Ibn Batouta in Tangier, reported the daily Al Akhbar in its weekend edition of 19 and 20 February.

Upon his arrival in Tangier, he immediately headed to the douar Ighran in the province of Chefchaouen to present condolences to the bereaved family, offer his help and ensure coordination between the family and an association that would take charge of infrastructure in the region, the construction of a mosque and other initiatives. And to give credibility to his words, he handed over the sum of 10,000 dirhams to Rayan’s father, the daily’s sources say. During this exchange, the Comorian preacher took pictures of himself with Rayan’s family members. These photos, it seems, were taken to build a file in order to instrumentalize this case to collect donations in kind or in cash.

But, continues the daily, the coordination of the father with local authorities has aborted the operation of scam. Thus, the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie Brigade of Chefchaouen arrested the accused. During his interrogation, continues Al Akhbar, he confessed that he had already done the same in another Arab country on the occasion of an identical incident. After the completion of the investigation, the Comorian preacher was taken on Thursday to Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca for extradition to his country of origin.

The province of Chefchaouen, it is recalled, had issued a statement that a series of initiatives to instrumentalize the incident of the death of the child Rayan, under the pretext of collecting donations in kind or in cash for his family, have recently been detected on social networks, both in Morocco and abroad, and in different forms.
