Fisheries production: a record turnover of 15 million dirhams in 2021

This remarkable performance was recorded in the three segments of fishing namely artisanal fishing (+66%), coastal fishing (+22%) and deep-sea fishing (+36%), said the Ministry in a statement.

Artisanal fishing has benefited from the increase in the turnover of octopus 111% (74% of the total) due in particular to the increase in the average price of 53%, explains the same source, adding that the evolution of coastal fishing results particularly from the increase in the turnover of cephalopods of 88%.

Regarding the segment of deep-sea fishing, it was carried by the appreciation of the CA of cephalopods of 38% (82% of the total) due to the increase in average prices of these species, says the ministry.

Concerning the increase in the volume of production, this is due to the increase in both the coastal segment (+2%) and the artisanal segment (+7%), due to the increase in the production of cephalopods and white fish of 23% and 20% respectively.

Also, the octopus fishing activity during the year 2021 has recorded a remarkable performance with a production volume increase of 22%, benefiting particularly the coastal and artisanal segments (+37%).

This increase is due to the improvement in the state of the stock of this fishery having led to the increase in the overall quota of this species for 2021 by 8% and the early start of the octopus campaign (December 20, 2021 for the winter 2022 campaign against January 1, 2021 concerning the winter 2021 campaign).

Rabat – The national fisheries production has achieved a volume of 1.4 million tons for a record turnover (CA) never reached before of 15 billion dirhams (MMDH) in 2021, in growth of 35%, announced Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forestry.
