Recovery: Moroccan handicrafts exports exceed pre-pandemic levels

The increase in handicraft exports seen in 2021 also exceeded pre-pandemic levels, increasing by 13 percent over 2019, the line ministry says.

During the year 2021, almost all products show remarkable performance in export, even excellent for the majority of them, says a statement from the Ministry.

Copperware recorded a strong demand abroad that increased fivefold compared to 2020, while remarkable growth was also recorded in wrought iron products, plant products and pottery. These products recorded an increase in exports of 95%, 91% and 74%, respectively.

Carpets have also regained positive momentum after two consecutive years of decline, recording an increase of 67%, followed by footwear, with a growth rate of 62%, said the same source, adding that wood products have increased by 51% over 2020.

Other handicraft products have recorded more modest growth, such as leather goods (17%), jewelry (6%) and blankets (1%).
