Benatia speaks out on the Ziyech-Halilhodzic dispute

The former captain of the Moroccan soccer team, Mehdi Benatia, has defended Hakim Ziyech in the dispute between him and the national coach Vahid Halilhodzic. The dispute reached its peak last Tuesday, when Ziyech announced his international retirement.

In an interview with French journalist Alexandre Ruiz, Benatia took Ziyech’s side, stressing that he is an important player. “He is someone with incredible qualities. What can Morocco do without Hakim Ziyech? It’s a bit complicated, it’s like removing Messi from Argentina. In the national team, we do not have a 10 like him,” he said.

Benatia also said: “I never had any problem with him. When you don’t know him, you have the impression that he doesn’t talk and doesn’t laugh much. But he is always there 100%”.
