It is a document that is already reigniting the never-ending debate on global tranquillity. The 98-page report, which defines positive peace as “the attitudes, institutions and structures that create and maintain peace in societies”, reveals that the overall Positive Peace Index score has improved by 2.4% since 2009, with 126 countries improving in positive peace, 36 countries deteriorating and one country keeping almost the same level of ‘peace’.
This year, Morocco is ranked 80th in the world, with a score of 3.177 points. Although it is down 7 places compared to the previous edition, the Kingdom remains in the category of countries with a “high level of positive peace”, reveals the document published by the Australian think-tank “Institute of Economics and Peace”.
Regionally, the Kingdom is ranked 9th in the MENA region, behind Israel (34th place worldwide), the United Arab Emirates (37th), Kuwait (46th), Qatar (49th), Tunisia (54th), the Sultanate of Oman (55th), Bahrain (72nd) and Saudi Arabia (79th). It is also ahead of Jordan (83rd) and Algeria (96th).
The level of overall peace in the world has decreased for the first time in five years, it is reported. Every year since 2015, the global positive peace index has improved, although the improvement was very small from 2019 to 2020. The slowdown in the rate of improvement in 2020 was associated with COVID-19, according to the same source. However, for more precision in its assessment, the Think-tank promises more results in future editions of its report.
