Abderrazak Baba died one hour after being hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Marrakech, his son told MAP.
He was born in 1964 in the Bab Jdid district in the Medina of Marrakech into a family with a passion for the Dakka Marrakchia. His father, Ahmed Baba, was also a great artist of this genre of Moroccan popular music.
The deceased, who was one of the most famous representatives of this authentic artistic genre, learned the Dakka Marrakchia from his father and other representatives of this art from a young age.
As a talented and prolific artist, he was known for his modesty, generosity and his unceasing struggle for the preservation of this ancestral heritage. He received several distinctions during his life.
The deceased regularly participated in the National Festival of Popular Arts (FNAP) and major national festivals.
He also took part in major international festivals, notably in France, Belgium, Italy and Norway.
